Ultrasound
Ultrasonography is a type of diagnostic technique that uses ultrasound waves to produce an imaging study. This means that when we perform ultrasonography, we can see internal images of the patient’s body. Ultrasonography is a completely non-invasive, painless way to diagnose and evaluate many common diseases. Ultrasounds also allow us to look at the architecture of internal organs and examine location, size, shape, texture and blood supply.
Radiology
Akaal Pet Hospital has a full-service digital radiography laboratory and radiology consultation services if your pet needs an X-Ray as part of their diagnostic workup. Like many procedures, an X-Ray can be stressful for a pet, and a pet parent, but our specialists can answer any questions or concerns you may have before the procedure is done.
Our hospital has a brand new, top-of-the-line Innovet Select high-frequency digital X-ray machine. We also have consulting radiologists who can review your pet’s x rays, if necessary.
Below are some of the most commonly asked questions we receive from pet parents whose animal needs an X-Ray.
Why would my pet need an x-ray?
An X-ray is vital when diagnosing your pet’s disease process. X-rays are typically used when diagnosing a fracture or an ailment, and they are not part of a regular wellness exam. An X-ray can reveal foreign objects in your pet’s stomach, tumors, bladder stones and a host of other issues that may be ailing your pet.
Will my pet need to be sedated for an x-ray?
Most pets will not require sedation for an X-ray unless they have been recently injured and the procedure requires putting the animal in an uncomfortable position. Typically, our technicians will lay a dog or cat on their back or side in order to get the pictures.
Are x-rays dangerous?
The radiation from X-rays can be harmful, and our technicians will not allow you to accompany your pet while they are getting the pictures taken. However, this does not mean that the procedure should be avoided. The amount of radiation exposure a pet receives from an X ray is minimal.
